How to: Adding a Printer to your Computerbank Linux Computer
How to: Adding a Printer to your Computerbank Linux Computer
Connect
the printer to the correct port at the back of your computer, put
paper in, then turn the printer on.
To
set up your printer go to the K Menu > Control Center
(See picture below)
In
the KDE Control Center:
- Find
the Peripherals sub
menu and open it up by clicking on the +
- Select
the Printers option
- Click
on the Administrator mode button
(ie on the bottom left hand corner of the dialog box)
- When
prompted, enter your root password
- Click
on the Add button and
choose Printer/Class
to start the wizard
When
the Printer wizard appears:
- Choose
the printer type (usually Local Printer)
- Choose
printer port (parallel or usb depending on the printer connection)
- Choose
printer manufacturer from list of options (ie HP, Canon, or
whatever)
- Choose
model of printer from a list of options (ie HP Deskjet 650c, Epson
C45, or whatever)
- Choose
a driver (use the recommended one)
- Run
a print test to
check that the driver works. If the printer does not work, click the
“back”
button and try another driver until it does work or all options have
been exhausted
- When
asked about banners, quotas, or denied users, leave as is, unless
you know what these things mean
- When
asked to supply a name (model), and location for the printer (ie in
your room, on a desk), enter the obvious things
Click
“finish” when done
setting up the printer, and close the KDE Control Center.
Congratulations,
now you can try and print from a file.
