Coordinators Report for June and July

General News

Not much has really happened the past couple of months...steady is how it has been.  Slowly more people are hearing about us.

We have dropped our prices again - this time around $20 off the price of a P4! We have also extended our service to anyone who is a student.

We got a brief mention in the Age IT Next section. See http://www.smh.com.au/news/technology/laying-waste-to-yesterdays-widgets/2008/06/30/1214677941634.html

An 'essential safety measures' inspection of our building will be arranged by WB Simpson.

Computers Out

May: 32 (3 Swaziland AIDS Project, 1 Fiji, 1 rebuild and 3 MACS, 2 other shop boxes)

June: 34 (1 Brunswick History Group, 1 Sunshine Hospital and 5 via the shop/ebay).

July (TD): 30 (includes 5 via the shop)

Year TD:  227

In addition to the computers above, we have also sold in excess of 20 low spec and non-working laptops on ebay.

We are still seeing quite low numbers of computers out. One way in which everyone can help is to print our new flyers and leave them in community spaces.

Donations

We received 36 laptops (in various states) from Cricket Australia. Some of these have already gone to new homes. We got a bunch of 15" LCD screens and PC's from GHD and Mecu donated more computers. We also had smaller donations from individuals and small business.

User Support & Training

We are still experiencing low levels of support. Some printer configurations and internet set ups. We have noted serious AAPT set up issues with Gnome PPP with no known fix. Use pppconfig instead.

Lower numbers of people are attending training so we now run training classes fortnightly or on an as needed basis.

Volunteers

Welcome aboard to new volunteers Jeremy and Patrick. Jeremy doesn't mind helping across a number of areas, including front desk while Patrick is helping out with the django database project.

Work for the Dole

Everything is going great in WFD. We have a full project - our current WFD team is fantastic. We seem to be keeping on top of most things and have even managed to start doing jobs that have been neglected for a long time.

We will roll over again in August but only with 10 participants - the numbers keep on gong down. This time from 12 to 10.

Last Thing

Don't forget to help spread the word. Flyers available from: (we need a page with links to PDF's of fyers)
