Coordinators Report - August – October
General
It has been a long time since I have put together a report . It has been a fairly hectic past few months and we have had less people to help with the load.
A lot of things have happened, including Software Freedom Day. We've built some computers for a group in NSW, but these are yet to be shipped.
We've agreed to do a project for GHD in Shepparton, we are currently finalising the build for this – and trying to clone it. There is a great report about the Congolese Shepparton Settlement – see it at http://eccv.org.au/doc/CongolesePilotProject.pdf
Our Work for the Dole project is going well, we have many keen participants. We have a full project.
Just
this week we appeared in an Age article. The article focussed on our
work in developing countries. We have had a good response to it.
User Support & Training
Lately there have been a number of problems occurring. ICEauthority problems and log problems. One of our users has been back 4! times because of it. Other serious problems include HPLIP log files and Gconf log files. For users with newer systems log files are no longer being written.
There have also been a number of internet set ups and printer configurations. A mysterious udev error is also causing problems. To date no one has been able to work this out.
Thanks to Darce and our assistant trainers we are able to run training every fortnight. Aside from the usual problems of low turn outs, training has been going well.
