Coordinators Report for May and June

General News

Did I say busy?

Busy. No report yet.  I have filled in some of the sections. There is still a lot to write about.  I'll come back to finishing this report later.

Big thanks to everyone who contributed during May and June. :-)

Computers Out

May: 52

Includes 1 MAC sold in the shop.

June: 55

Includes 1 MAC sold in the shop. 1 to community group Global Trade Watch and 13* to Jobco for use in a Linux thin client network.

Year to Date: 326*; Last year at the end of June we had distributed 202 computers. This is an awesome increase.

*12 still not shipped but were supposed to be. Being picked up next week.

User Support

Much of the same for may/june. No time to complete. Stay tuned.

Lots of internet configurations.

Lots of printer configurations. We are configuring the HP F370 multifunction at this time. There is a how to over at http://doc.vic.computerbank.org.au/support/HP_PSC_Guide/

We had one user come back with a very big user.log file due to printer errors. Another file was also large. While we have updated this on the master clone this problem may still appear in systems already out in the wild.

Donations

Donations came from regulars including GHD and MECU. We also received equipment from Note Printing Australia as well as many individuals too. We've also been taking a lot of jobs involving a bit of e-waste and some good stuff.

Our information about accepting donations has changed, check our website if you are unsure about this. See http://vic.computerbank.org.au/donations

There may be times where we have to say no to equipment and refer it elsewhere. Front desk folks should touch base with me each week to check our capacity.

Projects

Projects currently active include:

* CVI Distro: New maintainer: Barry/Kylie. We thank John for all his work and special tweaks to the distro to date. See the wiki for reports on this.
* Database Project: Jan/Wendy/Susmita/Michael/Greg H. Jan is managing this. The team has been very active and enthusiastic. See the wiki for reports on this.
* Distro Testing Guide Project: Barry. See the wiki for reports on this.

It'd be great if folk working on these projects, could write a summary of where things are at (if they have not done so already).

WFD Project

Sorry - this is a rehash. I'll change it later. The project is progressing well. We have a full project with some very helpful and enthusiastic participants. The warehouse is looking good, as is the buildroom. Participants are keeping the surplus store stocked with a range of computers. In the last few weeks we have been busy with the large amount of equipment coming through the door. We also seem to have a high amount of absenteeism.

New Volunteers

We have a couple of new volunteers this time around. Big Welcome to Michael and Adam. Michael and Adam hope to help out across a number of different areas. They are usually in on Saturdays.
