Guide to IBM BIOS Settings

To enter the BIOS Menu, Press the F1 function key when the system starts up.

The BIOS menu shown below will be displayed.

Configuration/Setup Utility
Select Option:


System Summary

Product Data

Devices and I/O Ports

Date and Time

System Security

Start Options

Advanced Setup

ISA Legacy Resources

Advanced Power Management

Save Settings

Restore Settings

Load Default Settings

Exit Setup

To move the highlight bar, use the up and down arrow keys.

To select a menu item press the enter key.

To get details of the system components, select System Summary.

This will display, among other items, the following -

  • Processor type and speed
  • System memory
  • Video Controller
  • Hard disk size

Write down these details.

To check that the BIOS settings are suitable for a Computerbank Linux Installation, the following options need to be inspected. Use the left arrow key to change the settings if required.

Select Start Options
Check that Virus detection is disabled
Select Advanced Setup
Check that the following items are disabled :
ROM shadowing - Adapter Video BIOS - disabled
Plug and Play - Set Device Node - disabled
Select Advanced Power Management
Check that the APM BIOS Mode is disabled
Save Settings and press the Enter key.
Select Exit and press the enter key.
You may be asked to confirm that you want to exit

The system should now restart the boot sequence.
