te 16th August, 2000 A major concern is the lack of inventory. A possible remedy is, having once sorted and catalogued the equipment we have, to place all donated equipment in a holding area (sich as the "cage" at the Hall), remove it from there for test and installation on To-Do days, and catalogue only that equipment which is suitable for use; unsuitable or broken equipment should be stored separately for recycling. Cataloguing can be broken down into categories of equipment, from full systems through HDD, memory, motherboards/CPUs, printers, modems and sound cards. Other items, such as network cable/cards, power cords, mice, keyboards and so on, should be tested and not moved to the main store unless they pass tests, but need not be catalogued - only counted. Much of the equipment is filthy, and should be cleaned on install days before storing in main storage. While we have a fair amoung of cloth, we also require rags, windex, Zoff (for removing labels) and possibly other cleaning compounds. Shelving is a major concern, although the re-organisation at the Hall has improved matters a great deal. The Training/Demo machine at the hall on To-Do days could run a copy of Gnumeric to allow the catalogue to be updated on the fly. The current organisational structure lacks a bit of cohesion, and a lot of work is devolving on a few core people. Aside from the Committee, the main groups required are Technical, Marketing (fundraising and publicity), Volunteer and Training. These groups need strong co-ordinators, who will work independently of the Committee once their brief has been agreed on. |
