Nov 1 1999 Nat Minutes
|
ate Monday 1st November 1999 Our current need is for money, we will ask Ewen to concentrate on that. We have a line on some reasonably priced hard disks, and other hardware needs will keep coming up. We agreed that a mutual agreement in writing is all that is required to terminate the verbal agreement we currently have with Ewen. (Insertion by PF: Our original discussions with him noted that he would receive 25% of any funds that he raised.) Funding sources: Rotary, philanthropic trusts, government. Kylie will be getting the guide to philanthropic organisations shortly; Multimedia Vic can be approached as soon as we are incorporated. Kylie and Bill will arrange to meet with Carlo Carli ASAP. Budget: mostly hangs on premises, since many items on ERNi's budget, on the copy Kylie brought to the meeting, are contingent on the premises being in place. They also have no salary component, running entirely on volunteers. We would like to get funding for around $50Kpa for salary, which could cover 1 f/t or 2 p/t tech/admin personnel. Logo: Bill to see person at recruit.net; PF to drag out GIMP files and send in to list. Bill to cost button manufacture - see if we can get some made to sell. We discussed a work referral service as a method of making money. This would involve CBV keeping a list of people available for work and their skills, and working on becoming known as a referral point. We could either ask referred people for a percentage of their job fee, or charge a flat fee for them to be on the list, depending on the general attitude. A percentage would certainly give CBV more income. We see the referred people as setting their own rates with employers - doing their own negotiation; we can store CVs and let them out to potential employers/clients. It's suggested we call this CBV Linux Referral Services, and this part of the organisation could also cover training (commercial training for money) and speaking/inservice in education (also for money). Bill suggested we advertise to promote the service. We would advertise the service in the GNUsletter (see below), on the linux jobs database, on our website and potentially get the GNUsletter piggybacked onto a technical ezine (perhaps from Ziff-Davis). This section of the minutes covering the referral service is to be posted to the private list for the consideration and feedback of active members. We would like to do a GNUsletter (possibly quarterly) - as a vehicle for networking for the referral service, a way to publicise what we are doing, and a forum for thanking donors. Kylie will approach Alastaire Rosie. The next meeting is to be held at FCCVI around November 14th depending on availability of space, and may coincide with the launching of the linux network. Announcement of actual day and time will be posted to the list. |
